Workplace First Aid Requirements

Level 2 Award in CPR & AED

Low Hazard environment – Minimum of 1 appointed person on site at any given time with up to 25 employees.

Higher Hazard environments – Minimum of 1 appointed person on site at any given time with fewer than 5 employees.

Level 3 Emergency First Aid @ Work

Low Hazard environment – Minimum of 1 person on site at any given time to hold this with between 25-50 employees.

Higher Hazard environment – Minimum level of qualification for 1 person on site at any given time to hold this with between 5-50 employees. However, the Level 3 First Aid @ Work may be more suitable depending on types of injuries that may occur.

Level 3 First Aid @ Work

Low Hazard environment – Minimum of 1 person on site at any given time to hold this with over 50 employees, with at least 1 for every 100 employed (or part thereof) .

Higher Hazard environment – Minimum of 1 person on site at any given time to hold this with over 50 employees, with at least 1 for every 50 employed (or part thereof).

Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid

To be held by all of those working in Early Years settings if they wish to be included in the staff: child ratios.

Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid

To be held by at least 1 member of staff on site at any given time within a professional child care establishment. Childminders are also required to hold this qualification..

These guidelines are in line with HSE and Department for Education, in the case of Paediatric qualifications
